Bah, he deserved everything except for the bottle, which, even though he didn't throw hard at the kid, was over the top. Humiliation will make him not do this again. Of course, he didn't need to curse him so much, but people get irrational when they get angry, and Homme might be divine, but he is still human. I don't use college talk and candy when I'm pissed off, why should he.

I've seen people go violent for things less important than this.

So Josh is supposed to let people throw shit at him? I think letting people know that if they fuck with you they'll get fucked up tends to be a pretty good deterrent. "I'm gonna get attention by being a violent asshole then duck into the anonymity of the crowd for protection" is behavior that deserves humiliation. THEN kick him out, damn right. Fucking with a QOTSA show, deserves whatever he gets.

There is something with playing at Norwegian Wood. David Bowie played there in 2004, and someone threw a lollipop in his eye(!). It was wedged between his eyeball and eyelid. Good thing it wasn't his right eye.

Please.  When is it cool to throw shit at the stage and interrupt the show for thousands of paying fans.  You'll notice there's no question mark at the end of that sentence.  If you know anything about Josh Homme, you should know that this is the reaction you'll get.  There's about ten or so different videos on Youtube alone, of him calling out these kinds of dicks at shows.  Think Josh is an asshole?  That's fine.  That idiot that threw shit is lucky other fans didn't send him to the infirmary tent.  After what happened to Dimebag, you'd better fuckin' believe some of these harder-living musicians will throw down on somebody.  Everybody gets their ass handed to them sometime during their life, and if they deserve it, maybe it'll be a good lesson.

P.S.  I hope one of your favorite bands gets sued by some dickless shithead because they were just trying to do their job and entertain you and all your friends.

Well in that case, maybe security should have just blown the kids brains out on the spot. God forbid you act like a jackass and interrupt a concert, all bets are off then. The world will never been the same because the poor queens of the stone age concert was interrupted for 3 seconds.

Look, I agree Josh has little finesse when dealing with these situations, but everybody that has a condemning tone about this is over-reacting to the "violence".  Noone got hurt here.  That kid was fine.

And as a fan or consumer, why should I put up with people that act like this?  Most everybody just wants to have a good time.  They've spent their hard-earned dollars and their time to be there.  But occasionally there's that guy.  The one that just can't be cool or act like they've been in public before. 

I'm sorry, but the condemnation rubbed me the wrong way from a few of you, and in my opinion it's a non-event that has now been given unecessary heft by the media that's reporting it (I've seen this story several times today already).  And I've got no sympathy for this guy or anyone else that disturbs performers and their fans at shows.

Granted Homme clearly did overreact, but in his defense, I will say that everybody tends to get easily irritated when they run a 102 degree temperature.  The guy's just trying to do his job despite being sick.  But of course he shouldn't have reacted so over the top.  I can't see that he caused any permanent damage though, so oh well.

The only thing that really bothers me about this, is that for a talented song writer he seems to have a rather limited vocabulary when upset.  If you're going to insult someone, at least do a decent job of it, and try to mix in one or two words that aren't "fucking" "faggot" or "pussy."

The 90's rock star generation seems to have no patience with 'fans' these days. Anybody remember the vid of Phil Anselmo cursing out some kid who threw shit at him while security held him? Just pointing it out.

Look, if I was trying to do my job and someone threw a fucking bottle at me he'd better hope like hell there was security there to protect his chickenshit ass. I don't know how anyone else lives, but if someone fucks with how I make my living I'm going to try to kill the motherfucker if I can. If some people out there are willing to have shit thrown atthem while they work, so be it, but I'm not applying for sainthood and I sure as hell don't see why Josh Homme should act like he is.

If you think what Josh did was wrong, I'm really curious how you exist. People throw shit at you and you just let it go? Really? Where do you live? Bottles being thrown at you is cool? You like that? Are you masochistic, or just tolerant to a point that encourages belligerence? Are you pro-crime? If you want to be assaulted, commit a crime, get convicted, move into a prison, enjoy yourself, they've got some real pros there, they can teach you the real joys of a bottle assault.

I don't advocate violence. Especially not against myself. If you want people to throw bottles at you go ahead, do something that apparently merits it (like playing music). I'm totally disgusted. I've gone to shows for decades, and the little fucks who come in and assault the bands are fucking criminals committing assault. A crowd paid to see and hear the band, the band got themselves amped up out of their minds to put on a great show, and some little shitheel committed a crime and we're supposed to blame the victim. Fuck that. The guy who starts the fight doesn't have a case. If every one of these little pricks got their asses kicked as well as getting thrown out, it would likely lead to a lot fewer of these occurrences interrupting what might otherwise be great shows.

Superstars taking matters into their own hands NEVER works out. Just ask Diddy, he's been sued at least a half dozen times from people saying they were "assaulted". Like you said, people never want to look at who actually started the fight.

In the end, if you're rich an famous its better (and cheaper) just to have seucurity deal with it. Period.

My defense of Josh Homme isn't at all predicated on him being surrounded by security and cameras. It's based on the fact that he's a human being and someone threw a bottle at him. If he got hit by a bottle, did security stop it? Did a camera stop it? How did the guy who threw the bottle suddenly become the victim?

Fuck the guy who committed assault and battery, stop pitying the little pathetic wretch. He should've had a physical response if he committed the crime, and he should also be prosecuted. If he's innocent we have a whole other story, but I haven't seen that suggested anywhere.

There seems to be an argument here that if you're well known you're not supposed to get pissed off when you're physically assaulted. As though being less well known relieves a person of responsibility for their actions. I'm not looking at this as a legal case, because I didn't see this issue raised that way and I don't have the evidence even if it was. But on a moral basis, I don't see a damn thing wrong with throwing a bottle back at someone who threw a bottle at you. Whether what Josh did was the smart thing is one issue - whether it was wrong is another.

I'll say, first, that the least that should happen to someone who throws something at the stage should be ejection and an arrest for assault.

That said, a "star" who attacks a fan in retaliation isn't risking much, because he knows he's got the rest of his band, the roadies and Security to pull his ass out of the fire if the guy turns out to be able to go all neanderthal on his ass.

(A friend who was at a Joan Jett show reported that someone threw a beer bottle on stage, and Joan announced that, if whoever it was cared to show his face, she would personally kick his butt for him. My friend said the same thing about roadies and the like that ijust said, and i looked him in the eye and asked "Do you really think Joan Jett would need anyone's help to kick the ass of anyone smaller than, say, Hulk Hogan?")

Of course, thinking about interactions between stage and audience usually leads me back to the guy shoutng at Frank Zappa and the security guy (or maybe cop) trying to send him back to his seat.

Because I'm pretty sure the last time I checked they still suck. If they keep up the good work, they might still be elligible to go down in VH1's books as "two hit wonders."

You don't throw ANYTHING at a stage performer.  Even in daylight, the lighting used at these events can practically blind you onstage and in many cases you cannot see past the first couple of rows of seats.  Furthermore, these men and women are here to entertain you, not be target dummies for idiots like this child.  Finally, Josh threw THE SHOE that was THROWN AT HIM.  He didn't throw a bottle.  This blog is misleading drivel.
