I just realized i dont have this album, and i honestly cannot think of 1 reason why not. Thats disappointing... Eh, oh well. Downloads, ftw!
I was enjoying a quiet evening here, geeking out the MP3 collection.
(This entails using Media Monkey to ensure that every REM song has REM as the band name, not R.E.M. or some variant thereof. I know, I'm a dork. Anyway ...)
I was flipping through Smashing Pumpkins, and hit upon this track, and thought, "Man, this song was AWESOME when it came out." Thing is, it still holds up. I wonder why it got so little love when it was released.

Zeitgeist got mixed reviews, some of which are founded not on the music, but on the re-conceptualization of the Pumpkins' direction (See Stephen Entwistle's review on www.allmusic.com).
To me the weakness is not with the conceptualization - if Billy Corgan wants to lament about this failing country instead of his tortured soul, more power to him, regardless of past endeavors - the weakness of the original cd lied in the lack of eclecticism and acoustic melodies.

Check out the new Smashing Pumpkins' video for the Zeitgeist track "Superchrist." The video was directed by Justin Coloma and includes guest appearances by Gary and Sky Saxon from The Seeds on Tambourine and Bass and violinist Ysanne Spevack.

I really don't have a lot to say here, other than I'm amazed that nobody has ever posted this song. Smashing Pumpkins' best song, by far, if for nothing else, than for the, as Jack Black would put it, the 'face-melting' solo beginning at 3:09.... MORE

Smashing Pumpkins played something like 11 shows in a row in SF during their Zeitgeist tour last year, then took a break in L.A. before continuing the tour. Well, we were told they took a "break" but in fact, they went into the studio and recorded a string of acoustic songs. The songs were produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain and will be released as a new acoustic EP called American Gothic.
