What more needs to say about a band that is less then 3 years old and has put out a note perfect album, to boot? Nothing really. So I'll let the music do the talking. Here is one of the rare cases in which the band lives up to the hype. I dare you to not get these songs stuck in your head.

There is something intriguing and almost unnatural about the fact that I am continuously drawn towards Vampire Weekend. The light-hearted melodies with simple accompaniment of organ, harpsichord, strings, and flute, turn the clock back to the times of invincibility and carefree college days. Vampire Weekend is a four member New York City indie band, that slightly nods towards the afro-pop genre with a hint of ska. The 2/4 percussion, accented with African elements and an occa... MORE
This is a couple of days old now, but in case you missed it (like I did):
Vampire Weekend is coming to Australia to play at Splendour, plus sideshows already announced in Sydney and Melbourne.
August 4 - Sydney, Metro Theatre
August 6 - Melbourne, Prince Bandroom
Ticket on sale from June 2 via Ticketek.com.au or from the venues. I imagine they will sell like hot potatoes, so be quick on this one.
See you there?... MORE
sorry if that may seem a bit lewd, it is the title given to this friday night by my dear friend and the reason why this first entry must be cut short. anyways, it seems like my interest in music has reached a new height today by joining this mog blog dog? idk? i don't like to talk about myself much, not much of a narcissist these days, sucks. but i do love music so here i am.
i leave on a happy note, it is friday and the memorial weekend is just beginning in which the ce... MORE
It seems to be the in thing to rave about the new(ish) Vampire Weekend self titled album - and I guess it's time I joined the party.
Being my first post here it's probably not a bad idea to set in stone that the Vampire Weekend album pretty much epitomizes everything that I love in music. Sure my music taste stretches far and wide (perhaps more so every time I get handed a CD from a friend) but this sort of indie-rock really stands out to me. The Vampire Weekend debut wr... MORE
Have you heard the new Vampire Weekend album? I happened to get a copy, and it's catchy as hell. On the one hand, they sound pretty flawlessly African, but on the other hand, their lyrics, full of references to sites around the Northeast, make it pretty clear that they're not from Africa. "Walcott," probably the most infectious song on an album full of infectious songs and my early pick for song of the year, refers to passing the Mystic Seaport after leaving Cape Cod, a tr... MORE
It's been a little while since the last sampler... oh well, it's here now. A trio of perfect little pop confections -
1) Vampire Weekend's steel drum enfused Walcott
(next 2 in the comment section)
2)Hot Chip's Hold On drips and drops until it builds to a wicked stalagmite point
3)Helio Sequence's airy Keep Your Eyes Ahead... MORE
Best Buy has the best deals this week, so these are from there. As usual, I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just trying to give people a cheap way to support good artists:
CDs for $7.99: Vampire Weekend; Metro Station; Sara Bareilles; Kate Nash; Matt Costa; Battles (never heard of these guys before, but a quick check on iTunes sounds pretty cool); We The Kings; Five Finger Death Punch; Egypt Central
DVDs for $4.99 (gangster theme): Godfather I & II; Casin... MORE
OK, I am, or try to be resistent to hype - but in this case, these guys deserve it.
I saw the video a while back. Thought it was one of the better crop.
The album, though, is great. Just really, really strong - in the same way that Amy Winehouse's Back to Black was two years ago.
Most highly recommended for anyone who likes Yo La Tengo, the Lefte Bank, the Specials. The influences are kind of diverse...... MORE
Missed them in Pontiac in December when I saw they would be back in Michigan I immediately got tickets.
They are going to be at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor tonight and I have three tickets.
We have a snow advisory until 10pm. It is been snowing steadily for the past several hours and the weather channel says the snow will lead to hazardous driving conditions.
