MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Track:

I might have mentioned that in addition to my already full plate of graduate school (or rather, working on my dissertation proposal, funding applications, two side research projects, and getting ready to go to Africa) and hanging out with my hubby and friends, I work two days a week at a book and music store. Silly me-- I went into work tonight with the remnants of a terrible hangover and not wanting to deal with people. So I went back to the safe haven that is the music section, and began a task that only someone with my level of anal retentiveness and OCD could do... I alpha'd our dance music section. It was ugly, friends... ugly. Well, I figured out (because of a customer, actually) that I could use the listening station so conveniently located right next to dance to my advantage (by scanning music and turning up the volume so that I could listen to it without putting on the headphones-- this saved me from having to listen to the store's multiple iterations of the dreamgirls soundtrack). First, I scanned the Decemeberists' new album and listened to that. It rocked like I knew it would, and I was happy. But right next to it (on our over bin displays) was Amos Lee.And I remember that Chucky has repeatedly told me to listen to him.

Seriously, Chucky, you were so right. I adore this CD. In fact, I bought it tonight after listening to it on repeat while I alpha'd (and yes, that's a verb). It is perfect for working to, and he is one sexy man. He has this amazingly sensuous voice, and his lyrics are raw and it's folksy but not... it basically rocks. And it was a perfect suggestion. :) Thank you!

by the way, "the crane wife" is probably my favorite album released in the past decade, if you exclude other "favorites" like aeroplane over the sea and the lioness. i don't know if you do, but listening to that album on surround sound (or headphones) while you're realllllllly high is like, a life-changing experience. but i'm a dork.

Yes!!! I am so glad that you dug it. Although, I don't understand how anyone could listen to him and not fall in love instantly. I actually just teared up at the end of the video Blair posted - even the video was perfect.

I'm a hardcore pusher? Haha. Excellent. ;P

Oh - and - you are going to Africa??? Why for?

I really wish I could like more of Amos Lee's stuff. I've liked "Colours" since it was in that movie with that not-attractive-at-all guy from 13 Going on 30 and Reese Witherspoon, but when I listened to the rest of the album, I just... didn't like it at all.
