It's been nearly a year since Al Green gave Billboard info on his new album Lay It Down, which was being produced by Questlove of The Roots. I don't remember the specifics, but I DO remember Al saying the music "was like fresh cream from a cow's titty". I'm not exactly sure what that meant, but it sounded good enough to embed itself into my memory. I won't have to wonder much longer, because Lay It Down will hit stores on May 27th via Blue Note records. Below you'll find a... MORE

Here's something sweet for this Sunday morning: Al Green doing up "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles. The original hit me with its infectious greatness when I was about 10. But Green transforms the song's teenage innocence and nostalgia into something sexy and funky. The horn lines and that swelling in the bridge are enough to make you want to stay under those covers...

Say you have to be at work at six-thirty in the morning. And say you go to bed at ten-thirty. Then let's say you look at the clock and it says eleven-thirty, and you think to yourself, "Wow, I'm pretty much not tired." Say all those things happen, and when they happen, what do you do? Do you think to yourself, "Boy, I bet I know someone else who isn't sleeping, and I bet that someone else wouldn't be averse to drinking gin until last call?" Do you, moments after havi... MORE

Be fore warned. An "Atomic Funk Bomb" is coming.
I was accidentally watching the TV show "Jesse" (starring Christina Applegate) one night, several years ago, and I accidentally kept watching the damn thing, and I can't even recall the plot now, it has morphed into mush, but at one point, toward the end of this particular episode, Christina Applegate is having a potential moment with her love interest, and this song starts playing. The delicate guitar-drum intro had me hooked all by itself, but then the first words are su... MORE
