Amos Lee is a contemporary, urban troubador whose style has a wide appeal. This cut from the Supply and Demand CD is a personal favorite. Just thought I'd post some newer music so y'all didn't think I lived alone with 5,000 old LPs and a cat named Henry.... MORE

I wasn't gonna write anything up about Amos Lee's new Blue Note records release. I've never got into the man in the cheesy popcorn-vending hat's music. But I did have the decency to skim the info about his new album, Last Days at the Lodge, out June 24th, 2008, and was surprised by what I read.
Lee who has impressively toured/opened for Van Morrison and Bob Dylan is using some huge names as back-up on his third album. Apart from Lee, on guitars there's Doyle Bramhall, Jr... MORE

I love public television. And specifically a program called Austin City Limits. I credit this show for instilling in me a love and admiration for the great Sufjan Stevens and the amazing Chan Marshall. I don’t consider myself a huge music junkie so I watch to be educated and have yet to be disappointed by its selection of musicians.
That said, a while ago on the show there was a guy who looked to me like Snoop Dogg wearing high-waisted pants, suspenders, and an acoust... MORE

I haven't been on MOG for awhile. How have y'all been? I've been busy working at a skate-shop as an art-designer. All I do is art-related, I also got a gig to work on graphics with* [not for] a skateboard manufacturer making skateboard & shirt graphics for skate companies around the U.S. So far I have made graphics for companies in Corpus-TX, San Diego, San Francisco, Florida & China. As a matter of fact, I spoke with some dude [American] from a factory in China las... MORE

I might have mentioned that in addition to my already full plate of graduate school (or rather, working on my dissertation proposal, funding applications, two side research projects, and getting ready to go to Africa) and hanging out with my hubby and friends, I work two days a week at a book and music store. Silly me-- I went into work tonight with the remnants of a terrible hangover and not wanting to deal with people. So I went back to the safe haven that is the music sect... MORE

I am completely under this man’s spell. I don’t really understand it, because usually music this mellow would have my skin crawling and my brain itchy. I do most of music listening in my car and I’m usually very angry in my car. Who isn’t? You have to battle idiots just to get to job that you hate on time. But, when one of his songs come on I literally feel all of my muscles relaxing. I will still flick off the guy next to me but I no longer feel the need to roll down t... MORE

I arrived to work in my kitchen last week to find a cd next to the coffee urn ... a burned cd of Roy Hargrove .. it had my name on it. Hmmmm..... The next day I came in and there was another one ... Steve Winwood, and again my name- a mystery now:) This is a true story. The next day I come in and there's a small stack of cd's! Sweet! A few Ella and Duke recordings and an Amos Lee. These discs not only had the songs neatly listed on them, but some very funny colorfu... MORE

If anyone is looking for a new song or artist to check out, I highly reccomend this song by Amos Lee. I can't get it out of my head. I've been humming at at work and singing it when I'm alone. His music is very mellow, bluesy and simple, and his style of singing is incredibly melodic. I've got another favorite to add to the list. :)
"Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight"
Well I walked over the bridge
Into the city where I live,
And I saw my old landlord.
Well we both sai... MORE

I think I've been living under a rock, or something. Every morning on my walk to the subway, I pass a construction site where they're rebuilding a townhouse. The wood walls infront of the place are always covered with snipes and for about two weeks earlier this month two of the snipes were for Amos Lee's new album. I've seen them other places around the city and for some reason, I just kind of brushed them off like the ones for Danity Kane (ick) and PCD . I don't know why I ... MORE
