It's from late 1974, and is the first reggae record to feature a synthesised drum sound. Aston "Family Man" Barrett had heard The Rhythm King drum machine being used on Timmy thomas' Miami smash "Why Can't We Live Together?", and acquired one to use on some of his early productions on the Tuff Gong and Fams labels. This was released as a single on Tuff Gong and Island UK, and found its way onto the "Natty Dread" LP in 1975
also did not believe the news from Ethiopia, and rushed himself and the band into Lee Perry's studio within a day or two to give the world his comments. Incidentally, although Island agreed to his demand that it be released in the UK, asd it wasn't a "pop" single they refused to promote it.
"Hit me with music, brutalize me with music". Does anything else ring truer than that? Bob's album Live!, recorded at the Lyceum in London on the last leg of The Wailers' 1975 tour supporting Natty Dread, might possibly rank high among the greatest live albums of all time. With the addition of guitarist Al Anderson and keyboardist Tyrone Downie, and backing vocals provided by the I-Three's, Bob's touring lineup took his recorded product and amplified it to ten, ... Rastaman Vibration is a stunning cd of incredible music. Seen by some as an attempt at POP music, hailed by others as a masterpiece, It spun off no hit single but almost every track has become a staple of reggae/soul radio (at least in these parts).
Johnny Was, written by Rita Marley, exhibits a side of the Wailers not well enough appreciated.
As we drove around on this sunny L.A. afternoon, I heard Get Up Stand Up on the radio today. It was the original that most of us have heard from the magnificent Legend compilation. But I prefer the version from my favorite Marley album Talkin' Blues. It's my fave because of the live groove vibe felt from the recordings made live in the studio of San Fransisco's KSAN-FM in 1973. You see during that year Marley and his Wailers were opening up for Sly and the Family Stone.... MORE
SO...... on a recommendation from a fellow MOGger & grand all around guy, spideywholikestofeedmouths , I rented I Am Legend recently & for the first time, in a really REALLY REALLY long time, I was _jammin_ to some Bob Marley & the groove was getting to me in the best way. Has that ever happened to you ?!? I am sure that it has. A band you once dug kinda fell outta flavor with you... only to find years later, a love rekindled... PURE BLISS !!! DO TELL... who's yours ... MORE

Come With Your Heart and Soul
Come and Rock Your Bone
Sometimes we have to keep positive when things may not be going as we may have planned. Its been one of those days today for me. Somebody once told me there are only 3 qualities of life you need to follow to be successful ( we all have different visions of success- to some it may be fame, money, friends, love) The three Qualities are RESPONSIBILITY , (taking responsibility for your actions)AWARENESS, are you aware of what your actions are and what they do, what knock on ... If I could choose one artist to see of any dead or alive, Bob is my choice. Redemption Song is the last track on Bob Marley's album, Uprising. At the time he wrote the song, circa 1979, Marley had already been diagnosed with the cancer that was to later take his life, and according to Rita Marley, he was already secretly in a lot of pain and dealt with his own mortality, a feature which is clearly apparent on the album, particularly on this song. The song has been cove... MORE
Verizon Wireless and Universal Music Group announced a deal today that makes an extensive catalog of Bob Marley tunes available as ringtones for Verizon cell phones. A press release about the new ringtones puts Bob Marley on the highest musical pedestal and hails Verizon as a leader in mobile music for inking the deal with Universal. From the release:
No other artist has generated the galvanic global effect of Robert Nesta Marley. Singer, songwriter and shaman, he has rec... MORE
Oh Baby, Pimp's post here (and Lucy's old Multi post which miraculously showed up as new on my message board) just got me started with another crying festival. I swear, if this doesn't stop anytime soon I'll head down to the park and score some herb, see if that soothes me. Or, gives me sleep, and I mean, deep _dream-less_ sleep. This morning, I managed to oversleep my alarm once more, and I even resisted Fabian's attempts to wake me... he claims I spoke to him, but ... MORE
