Cat Power's Chan Marshall announced a string of live shows in the UK and US in support of her new album Jukebox. She starts with a show in L.A. this month, then kicks of the N.American shows with one Canadian appearance April 10th. The tour lasts less than one month, wrapping up in Houston April 22nd, without any stops on the east coast. Then, in June, Chan will head over to the UK for a total of 4 shows in one week. i must be on my 30th or more play by now. i'm loving this record. what is most disturbing is that i bought the vinyl for 34 bucks and i'm told that it was recorded in analog but matador was too cheap to give rti (the pressing plant) the analog copy OR the high resolution 96khz master. they gave the downsampled 16bit verion and rti then transfered to vinyl. i have no idea why it would cost more but anyhewwww.... recorded in analog, transfered to crappy redbook digital, ... For many who’ve seen Cat Power gigs over the years, calmness is not a word that immediately springs to mind when trying to describe Chan Marshall. Neither has she been, for large tracts of her confounding and exceptional career, much of a populist, exactly. Her distrait otherness might have been part of the appeal to some of us, but it would hardly work as a mainstream draw. I think this might just be a new low (or high, depending on how you look at it) point in my music obsession. I'm not only a librarian, I'm also an avid crafter, and my jewelry-making skills seemed to have been attacked by my iTunes. The tracklist for Cat Power's second covers album Jukebox has been announced. Among the classic artists that Cat Power will interpret with her deep and harrowing voice on Jukebox are Bob Dylan, Credence Clear Water Revival, James Brown and Frank Sinatra.
