This ad ran in the Dallas Morning News the day President Kennedy was shot.
It's time to cool this vicious rhetoric before we get another man killed. Things like "traitor!", "kill him!", "terrorist!" have been recently shouted from people in the crowds at McCain rallies. Today you saw John McCain attempt to put out the fires members of his campaign have helped start in recent days....   Let's hope there is a serious attempt to calm this angry fervor ... MORE

Blog post image preview Harold and Maude created an entire generation of slightly disturbed kids and goths despite never releasing a soundtrack to the film. Well, it's been 36 years but it's never too late for such a classic collection. And, if it reeks of classic hits, it must be coming out of the Attic. Light In The Attic has been releasing and reissuing some of our time's most classic, overlooked gems and they show no sign of slowing down. The soundtrack to Hal Ashby's "Harold And Maude" f... MORE

Is Cat Stevens Funky Enough for Friday? Pt.1

Blog post image preview Sure I grew up on Tea for the Tillerman, sure my chilhood was very Harold and Maude-esque, and sure I have always loved Cat Stevens. He was popular right about the time that many moms and pops record collections were being absorbed and raided to form the building blocks of hip hop. And yet the general consensus is that this Cat is not Funky. Just like 60-70's contemporary Neil Young, Yusef (nee Cat)was not the sort of guy to be pigeonholed. Izitso is Cat's Trans, an explor... Lyrics "Angelsea" by Cat Stevens

Artist:
Album:
Track:
(57)
Angelsea She moves like and angel
And seven evening stars
Dance through the window
Of her universal house

He voice a crystal echo
Lies humming in your soul
So patiently awaiting
For your ears to behold

She ripples on the water
Leaves diamonds on the shore
And fish from every distance
Watch her ocean cellar door
Her breath a warm fire
In every lovers heart
A mistress to magicians
And a dancer to the gods
And a dancer to the gods

Her clothes are made of rainbows
And twe

How do they do it?

(8)

Stevie Wonder is the king of this sort of thing, but Cat Stevens achieves a similar level of greatness with this shameless ode to just being yourself. I love this song and I don't care who knows it!

February 14th - How Can I Tell You?

(93)
I'm ambiguous, as it's in my nature to be, about Valentine's Day. Usually on this day, I put up my favourite song, ever, "Origin of Love". But "How Can I Tell You?" was on one of those best-of CDs my future ex-husband gave me at Christmas, and I'd never heard it before! How can that be? How could I possibly have missed a Cat Stevens song! I even owned - _owned_ - Izitso, although maybe that purchase isn't a good example of my adoration, being a bit of a departure from ... MORE

Harold and Maude

If you are as in love with the movie "Harold and Maude" as I am, you will have already asked yourself "Why can't I find the soundtrack anywhere?" Well, the answer from CatStevens.com is: "A soundtrack was released for Harold And Maude, only in Japan, but did not include the two original songs from the film." (If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out" and "Don't Be Shy") "Apparently they wanted to both boost sales of Cat's actual albums and also encourage fans to go see the movie ... MORE

Harold and Maude and Cat

(237)
Earlier today I watched Harold and Maude. It is definitely more interesting than it's title leads on. A kid who fakes suicides to get his mother's attention and then solves the problem by falling in love with a 79 year old woman who wants to commit suicide on her 80th birthday in a couple weeks - absolutely brilliant, and also, quite hilarious. I didn't know it when I decided to rent this movie, but Cat Stevens did the entire soundtrack. I mean every song is a Cat Steven... MORE
