I've come to the point in my life, where I've written about Death Cab's live show in a way that (hopefully) allows readers to live vicariously through my experience...one too many times. I guess seeing them play over eight times, and writing similar styled reviews close to that number, has made me little uninspired to write about them again in that same manner. It's not to say that I won't do it again the future, but I think it's time to try something new. With that sai... MORE
A couple of years ago now, I took one of those risks, as one does, buying an album from an artist that I knew next to nothing about. I had heard one track from Transatlanticism and Death Cab all together, 'A Lack of Color', which as a mostly acoustic song, wasn't a great representation of the band as a whole. The dude at Real Groovy (the most trustworthy record store in New Zealand, for those elsewhere) told me through monotone how good the album was to be. I didn't wan... MORE
The Voodoo festival has revealed its full lineup for the October 26-28 get together in New Orleans. Big name performers include Death Cab For Cutie, REM, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, and New Orleans' own Lil Wayne. The Voodoo festival is split into three major sections. "Le Flambeau" will feature music and sounds consistent with the hometown style of The Big Easy. "Le Ritual" will feature mainstream music we're all familiar with, and finally "Le Carnival" featu... Death Cab For Cutie's newest single "Cath..." debuted this morning. It was directed by the same woman who did their Directions version of "Different Names For The Same Thing", as well as the last Rilo Kiley single "Silver Lining". Autumn de Wilde also shot covers for Beck, The White Stripes, Raconteurs, etc., one of my favorite fashion shoots of Zooey Deschanel, and that amazing portrait book of Elliott Smith.
This is probably my most favorite track off of Narrow Stairs. Thanks to Stereogum for alerting me the video is out for "Cath."
Ben Gibbard's lyrics always strike something within me.
Thought ya'll might like to know that you can stream Narrow Stairs in its entirety here for free:

While I said I am a cat person (see previous post), truth be told, there is a dog in my life. Her name is Lola, a black and white rat terrier/chihuahua mix. She is my brother's dog, and she comes over to the house quite frequently. And if Kyle, my bro, is not there, I am easily the boss of Lola...she sits with me while I am on the computer, follows directions (as much as a Lola can), and follows me around the house. Last night she was hit by a car around midnight. Kyl... MORE
...that the new Death Cab album is just a total pop nugget from start to finish, albeit a nugget with more than a little bitterness right there at the end. This though, is like an outtake from Pet Sounds. Good shit. Surprising. It makes me smile everytime I hear it. Come to think of it, Brian Wilson is all over this record, in all his shimmering sixties faded pop glory.
I pretty much have all of the music and I'm voting yes. I've aquired a constant stream of Death Cab and it is putting an amazing feel to my summer. I've been rotating all of the albums and the band is a perfect soundtrack. I dig the new album as well, more and more with each listen. Can you believe this was spun from not being able to see their show in Detroit? Oh, so upset. But makes it hurt even worse because now I feel I'm finally appreciating Ben Gibbard at this point ... Ah, Death Cab For Cutie, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... This week I was lucky enough to see Ben Gibbard, Chris Walla, Jason McGerr, and Nicholas Harmer twice in one week – Saturday 6/21 at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley and Monday 6/23 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and both concerts seemed to mirror their surroundings. Both were as different as they were alike. Berkeley’s felt very "Bay Area" while the Nokia felt very "LA, if you know what I mean.... MORE
