I've got a headache comin on. I can feel it creeping up my spine and into the base of my skull and making it's home therein. I am overly stressed out with life's constant frustrations. I shouldn't be... ever. This song soothes my nagging headache. I can close my eyes and drift off into the beautiful voice of Gillian Welch and the jangle of the guitar and imagine I'm behind the wheel of that "flat black Ford" and cruising with my wife and kids to some unknown destination... It's just after midnight here in Columbus,Ohio. I thought for a second that maybe I should wait until I was TOTALLY sober before I attempted to write this weekend's wrap up, but than I realized that such a retelling would probably be MUCH less honest. Gillian and David Rawlings played Liberty Hall on the 11th. I managed to snag two videos before my camera ran the batteries down. The first is a for a song made popular by Johnny Cash called Tennessee Stud. The second is One Little Song with a bit of the beginning cut off. It was freakin' hot and Gillian and David seemed in high spirits... lots of stage banter. That's a serious question. I went to a Bright Eyes concert last night. Yes, I knew Gil and Dave were opening and that they would be wonderful, but I expected Conor Oberst to at least give them a run for their money. Do I even need to tell you that he did not? I don't know how they do it, but with two acoustic guitars, a banjo and a harmonica, these two consistently produce and perform music that just plain feeds your soul. She said 'I'm trying to think of songs we can play cuz most of them are so quiet you won't hear them. So I saw Bright Eyes a week or two ago in Columbus, and I haven't updated yet because, well, i was really disapointed. I was expecitng a show like the one they played at The Agora like 5 years ago, and it was really sub-par. I think one of the biggest problem was that it wasnt GA, and whoever mixed the sound sucked balls. Conor peaked like 10 times during his set. Even got feedback a few times! Really bad. What a dreary week its been here in Columbus, OH. I for one, am ready for the weekend!
Have you all met Gillian Welch? I am sure most of you at least know the name...I love her! Her music I mean...such a terrific songwriter, and I could listen to her all day long...and I have today as a matter of fact. I will leave you all with a wonderful example of her talents...good night!

Gillian Welch will be back in town in about two weeks. I wanted to go, but I had to wait until I got my paycheck. Well, when the paycheck roled around, tickets were sold out. I was really hoping to go to this show, as my current situation is sucking big time and I thought this show might be a nice diversion. (As was Tweedy the other Night. You gotta hand it to that guy.) The weather has been wonderful. I've been sleeping with the windows open again and wearing dresses. I've been waking up in the morning and putting on some Gillian Welch while I get ready for my work day. In the midst of my morning activities, (making lunches, getting two kids dressed and ready for school, making coffee, finishing last night's laundry, feeding the animals) Gillian just makes it all a little easier. Everytime I have guests over I play Gillian Welch's Soul Journey resulting in many many compliments. Her voice just jumps out and grabs you and says come on ya'll lets make some music. Awesome news is, she's going to be at Cochella this year!!

went the "strictly bluegrass" festival this weekend in golden gate park to see gillian welch with friend and fellow mogger, steve simon. unfortunately 400,000 people (no lie!) also went to the bluegrass festival this weekend. not really having the patience, time, or wherewithall to see most of the festival's 3 day performances, i went in just for gillian.
