So some dreadlocked guy sings Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" the other night on American Idol, and Randy and Simon rattle on about how they love Jeff Buckley's version, and just like that, the Buckley track jumps out of nowhere to #4 on the iTunes chart, which is the first time Jeff's music has been in any top 10 in the U.S. (I'm pretty sure). We live in an odd world. You've heard and seen Jeff sing this song a bajillion times, but it never ceases to be riveting. He used t... MORE
This morning I woke up and looked at my Apple homepage and saw that Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" was #2 on iTunes. I love this song, but Buckley covered it back in '94, so I wondered what had caused this iTunes phenomenon. I did some research (a.k.a. Googling) and found out that American Idol contestant, Jason Castro, sang it a couple of nights ago. The judges say they like his rendition. Even Simon, who said it's one of favorite songs, said it was "BRILLIANT!" Hm... MORE
Despite this image, this is not a political post. Well, it is sort of. In a music snob sort of way...
So I saw this Google Headline "HUD Secretary Expected to Resign." But As you can see the picture next to it is a thumb of the Jeff Buckley album "Grace". Being ever inquisitive about such strange pairings I clicked on the picture which led me to this article from The Dallas Morning Star:This might have been more appropriate a week ago, on Easter Sunday -- you know, All... Here's what played on the lizziegreeneyes' Pod as I made my way home tonight... Eternal Life is now on my trailGot my red glitter coffin, man, just need one last nailWhile all these ugly gentlemen play out their foolish gamesThere's a flaming red horizon that screams our names And as your fantasies are broken in twoDid you really think this bloody road would Pave the way for you?You better turn aroundand blow your kiss hello to life eternal, angel Racist everyman, wh... I've been listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen lately... his own singing and other people doing his songs. The soundtrack of the "I'm Your Man" concert got me started, and I've been eating it up.
Now Blair posted his eponymous Jeff Buckley song again, and I remembered that Jeff also has a great Leonard Cohen song. So here it is...
Right, so I've been thinking long & hard on some mix tapes (CDs - I just can't get out of the habit of calling them tapes) that I've been working on for some of my fellow MOGgers. It got me to thinking about what I would consider _near perfect_ songs. I really shy away from saying _perfect_ song, as this is totally a subjective matter (though I'm always right) ! ;) I've got a few that I've sorted through in the present 9721 song collection on the _lizzie's iPod_ & for... There was that boy. That one boy that started this whole goddamned year. That one boy that knocked me higher up into the stratosphere then I've ever been in my life, then took off when I was past the clouds and let me crash back down through the earth into it's core. I don't know where I would be now if I wouldn't have known him. But I know for certain it wouldn't fucking be here. I attempted to leave him in a torn-up airport terminal's curbside drop-off. A million... MORE
When I was cleaning my dog's toilet (and by that I mean some piece of paper unfold – usually half Sunday newspaper), I noticed he flushed his bladder on Jeff Buckley (Holy schmutz, don't know how that got there.. I usually keep music related pages away from such _wet destiny_). It was quite comic in the way there was something written about his death (I'm sure you all know he drowned a decade ago)...and seeing that paper all yellow... _"and I feel them drown my name so e... I swear I'm not trying to make this 'Morbid Monday' or anything, but the more I listen to Andrew Bird's newest album the more I notice some vocal similarities to the late Jeff Buckley, and I had to bust out an album that I hadn't listened to in way too long, and that would be Jeff's Grace. I bought this album for about 2 bucks at a thrift store (okay maybe it was a nice pawn shop) around 7 or 8 years ago. I appreciate it more and more now than I did then, and I just want... MORE
