Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels is asking the state Legislature to adopt a series of gun control bills he hopes will "reduce the violence." The proposals include a ban on assault weapons as well as state monitoring of gun dealers to see if there is any relationship between individual sellers and later use of guns in criminal activity. People really got excited for a new Star Wars movie. Lines around the block - it was an unprecedented event. Now, while there is still quite a bit of excitement for the upcoming Clone Wars movie, set to be released tomorrow, it's not quite the same.

Not too many people are willing to call out Pitchfork Media anymore. The line I hear is "it's crap, but it's unavoidable" (um really, it's not like there aren't thousands of other sites you can rely upon for music knowledge). like millions of americans over the fourth of july holiday, i took in a good old summertime blockbuster popcorn flick, superman returns. i enjoyed it quite a bit -- i thought it had a lot of heart, was well-directed, the casting was great, the effects were superb, etc. etc. even if you haven't seen it, you probably are aware that the director (bryan singer) chose to use the classic john williams superman theme music. composer john ottmann incorporated several of william... As Harrison Ford prepares to put on the snap brim fedora and whip for "Indy 4," I recall looking for the original march from "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I found this collection, which takes one from "The Sugarland Express" to "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade." I find it interesting that even when the movie wasn't exactly memorable, the music certainly was. (The march from "1941," for instance.) This has got to be one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard. I haven't seen the movie yet, but now I really want to.Next up is the 2 disc Babel soundtrack. It's got several tracks by Gustavo Santaolla, so I'm sure I'll love it. Again, I have yet to see the movie.
