Just In Case They Come Too Ya Door...

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels is asking the state Legislature to adopt a series of gun control bills he hopes will "reduce the violence." The proposals include a ban on assault weapons as well as state monitoring of gun dealers to see if there is any relationship between individual sellers and later use of guns in criminal activity. The proposals would also require background checks on persons buying guns at gun shows. The mayor said there were 31 gun-related killings in ... MORE

We're Afraid to Call It Love - Let's Call It "Swimming"!

(64)
Hey, gang. Missed you. I guess I was having the same frustrations with this site that a lot of other people experienced, and when I managed to get back on it a couple weeks ago, I noticed a lot of new avatars, with a picture of a rodent of some sort and a notice of a strike, demanding more reliable cooperation from whatever software governs this thing. I didn't go through the hassle of actually announcing it, but I was in sympathy with the strikers, and steered clear o... MORE

People really got excited for a new Star Wars movie. Lines around the block - it was an unprecedented event. Now, while there is still quite a bit of excitement for the upcoming Clone Wars movie, set to be released tomorrow, it's not quite the same.
I'm not expecting something overly spectacular or deep, nothing that is likely to affect me in quite the same way that seeing the films for the first time did, but I'm expecting to have a fun time. Yes, George Lucas has beco... MORE

Pitchfork inches closer to conglomerate status

Artist:
Track: Imperial March, The - (from "The Empire Strikes Back", with Utah Symphony Orchestra/Varujan Kojian)
Other Tags: Pitchfork
Not too many people are willing to call out Pitchfork Media anymore. The line I hear is "it's crap, but it's unavoidable" (um really, it's not like there aren't thousands of other sites you can rely upon for music knowledge). Jim DeRogatis has been one of the few to continuously call Pitchfork out (his interview with Ryan Schreiber lifted him to hero status in my mind), and he's back at it again, rightfully calling out the indie rock press moguls for hiring the sketchily c... Free music video of Superman - Main Title (54)
like millions of americans over the fourth of july holiday, i took in a good old summertime blockbuster popcorn flick, superman returns. i enjoyed it quite a bit -- i thought it had a lot of heart, was well-directed, the casting was great, the effects were superb, etc. etc. even if you haven't seen it, you probably are aware that the director (bryan singer) chose to use the classic john williams superman theme music. composer john ottmann incorporated several of william... "Trust me..."

Blog post image preview As Harrison Ford prepares to put on the snap brim fedora and whip for "Indy 4," I recall looking for the original march from "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I found this collection, which takes one from "The Sugarland Express" to "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade." I find it interesting that even when the movie wasn't exactly memorable, the music certainly was. (The march from "1941," for instance.) I wonder what Spielberg would have done with LucasArts' "Indiana Jones and Th... MORE

Memoirs of a Geisha

This has got to be one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard. I haven't seen the movie yet, but now I really want to.Next up is the 2 disc Babel soundtrack. It's got several tracks by Gustavo Santaolla, so I'm sure I'll love it. Again, I have yet to see the movie. So many exams, so little fun time. :(It's strange listening to these songs before seeing the films. I almost never do this. I've got a friend who will buy a soundtrack and listen to it religiou...
