That smiling face you see in the upper left hand corner passed away on Friday at the ripe old age of 15-1/2. They broke the mold when he was born. This being MOG, his favorite band was Los Lobos and his favorite song was "Shakin', Shakin', Shakes" which was appropriate because he had epilepsy. RIP dude.
Now that I am emerging from my January musical slump, I've been able to re-discover some of my favorite bands. I walked into the store and I had to purchase three new CD's. I found on the shelves Los Lobos, Wolf Tracks. Granted I'm not much for purchasing The Best Of...... CD's, but when I find that my collection is lacking, it's a nice way to acquire some of your favorite tracks all at one time. This (was "playing" "Maria Christiana" from LL live at The Catalyst, Santa Cruz, CA, Sept.4, 2005) is a pretty solid recording of a favorite song by "my" band. (We all have a few bands that we think we "discovered" 'cause we saw them live before they were hit it big. Thus, LL is "my" band.) Hard to underestimate the effect LL music has on my overall tastes. I first saw them in '77 or '78 in Ventura, CA, I think. Certainly reinforces a bias I have towards bands/musicians ... MORE
