I dig out Nirvana's Unplugged CD today, as inspiration for my guitar-learning.
It's been a while since any music really affected me, but this CD just hit the spot. Cobain's voice just kills me.
And as for my playing along to it? Well, it'll make any pro guitar player weep, and call social services to get my instrument taken away and put into care!
By MARCUS WOHLSEN SAN DIEGO (AP) - Dr. John Kelsoe has spent his career trying to identify the biological roots of bipolar disorder. In December, he announced he had discovered several gene mutations closely tied to the disease, also known as manic depression. Then Kelsoe, a prominent psychiatric geneticist at the University of California, San Diego, did something provocative for the buttoned-down world of academic medical research: He began selling bipolar genetic tes... So tonight I went to my first trance rave. I guess I committed a major faux-pas though- when everyone else dances to the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" remix, that isn't your cue to start a mosh.
I don't think that girl will forgive me anytime soon...
I posted this a long time ago but I deleted it when I sobered up because sobriety does crazy things to people. The song came up tonight in conversation and I wished to share this whole rest of it, but it wouldn't have worked. It is so hard talking to new people because you don't know how long to wait before you let them in on the fact that you are totally fucking insane. Anyways, here's the old stuff: As I sit here half, nay, three-fourths drunk on unfiltered sake, I ... MORE
I went to go see the new Kurt Cobain: About A Son documentary which recently opened at the IFC Center here in New York. While interesting, it was a difficult to watch film made up of 90 minutes of Cobain interview soundbites set to "ambient cinematography." I guess I was expecting more of a dyed-in-the-wool documentary about one of the last great icons/heroes/rockstars/whatever of the last several generations. About A Son was definitely different, in that the hour and a ha... MORE
Apparently this clip is kinda famous (I'm seeing it for the first time. Seiken pointed me at a miserable cover of "Final Countdown", and there in the related videos was something with the name of my high school in it.
I must have done like 6 plays/musicals and 10 choir/jazz/etc. concerts in this hall. They really didn't want us to play rock - now I see why...

Five of the best youtube minutes you will
ever see. It's like the history of early 90's rock neatly packaged for your consumption.
A great song by a band that changed the face of music, the most disastrous bass toss ever caught on film, and Dave Grohl mocking Axl Rose in front of millions of people.
Enjoy
I always find it fascinating to go to Amazon.com and read the negative reviews about great albums. For instance -- Nirvana's "Nevermind". While most reviewers there give it five stars, one in ten will give it only one (there's almost no in between). Here are some clips from the one-star reviews: "I am sorry but I just don't get it. My only take is that the late 80's got so bogged down and stale with the everywhere hair bands that anything new and angry sounding would ... MORE
