I’ve been a fan of Paul Weller’s music since I first heard "That’s Entertainment" by The Jam when I was 14 years old. For more than 30 years, Weller has been one of the finest songwriters in rock. He consistently scores hits in the UK and sells out large concert halls there. Yet, here in America, Weller remains something of a cult figure. Why is this? I've been duped by Rock stars plenty of times. How many have gone on record saying that the new album is the best they've ever done only to find it's a shallow parody of former glories? Well I confess that I had no expectation that Paul Weller's new album was as exciting as he'd told us, and now I hold my hands up and say I was wrong to cynically think he was "sexing it up". Don't get me wrong I am a huge Jam fan and was lucky enough to see them live, and how good they were, even now listening to Butterfly Collector, Eton Rifles and especially That's Entertainment. I realise how good The Jam were and especially how good Paul Weller can write (a poet even).
