I tried to find something patriotic

Artist:
Album: sharkbite sessions
Track:
(5)

but I failed.  This is way more pessimistic than I feel, but a good song nonetheless. Enjoy your fireworks, Americans.

Blog post image preview I know I am late, but I am trying to update my Mog page with some of my past external blog posts. I know, I know. I will hurry up and get through the rest. Even I am irritated by the untimeliness. Five albums after the group's formation in 1999, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists finally seem to making a name for themselves. Those that discovered their talent early on have had the fortunate pleasure of watching the band mature and adapt into an indie powerhouse. Now more respe... MORE

Blog post image preview For $5 American greenbacks I was able to catch a high-energy show by Ted Leo & the Pharmacists this fair evening. I didn't have too many expectations going into the show, but I figured at the very least it would keep my mind off the imminent arrival of In Rainbows. What I got, was well worth my price and then some TL & TP ripped through a high-energy set of songs from both the present and the past. Although the supporting crew wasn't very tight this evening, they managed t... MORE

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk

Artist:
Album: Living With The Living
Track:
(20)
Recently I finished one of the most bizarre books by one of the most bizarre authors I've ever read. Rant by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, etc) takes out a mixing bowl and tosses in chunks of 1984, bits of "The Matrix," a smidgeon of "Back to the Future," and a dash of "28 Days Later," to finally provide truly inspired bits of real insanity, so much so that there are probably about 5302 different conclusions the reader can come to after the last page has been turned. Due ... MORE

Blog post image preview Even though I pretend to be an adult, mature and professional member of society, there are times when my true being comes through. Last night my band of scurvy friends and I went to see Ted Leo and the Pharmacists at the Showbox in Seattle. And on a work night! Although it was an all ages show and the average age of the individuals on the floor was less than Rick's shoe size, we claimed our space in front of the stage, surrounded by the smell of Brut aftershave and... Blog post image preview I wouldn't dare to try, especially not Jordache. But Ted Leo totally can.

I got on the road towards San Francisco a little after 10am on Saturday. After heavy rain and heavy traffic due to an accident, and a stop at North Berkeley Wine to stock up on some of the cheaper Rhône reds that they import, the sun comes out and I find free parking for the whole day a couple of blocks away from Slim's. I leg it over to SF Museum of Modern Art to catch the "Picasso and American Art... MORE

I don't do funky

Artist:
Album: Shake The Sheets
Track:
Free music video of Me And Mia (10)
But I am going to see Ted Leo & The Pharmacists once again tomorrow at Slim's in SF, so you can keep the funk. Fast power pop, sweaty jumping, and very good times ahead. (Sorry about my elusive MOG presence lately; I've been busy).

...Boston, you're my home...

(7)
Blog post image preview Okay okay, so I know that MOG is about music and everything, and I'm sure the rest of you out there are probably sick and tired of hearing from Red Sox fans (I know I am sick of about half of them), but today is Opening Day at Fenway Park, and even though it's a steamy 41 degrees out [here] right now... our beloved Red Sox take the field at 2:05. Since I was a little kid, it's pretty much been a hypothetical tug o' war (and one for the ages) between my main loves, music..... MORE

Living With The Living

Artist:
Album: Living With The Living
I am a huge Ted Leo fan. I love Shake the Sheets more than almost every other album in my music collection. Hearts of Oak and Tyranny of Distance get me excited beyond belief. I recently received all of Ted Leo's earlier work both with the Pharmacists and with Chisel and love almost every song on every single album. I even enjoy the shitty recordings on the One AM Radio/Ted Leo split that actually turned some people off from Ted. I have seen him twice, and will be seeing h... MORE

April and May promise to be LOUD

Artist:
Album: Living with the Living
Other Tags: Sean Nelson, Ben Gibbard, Rocky Votolato, MCR, Muse, Mute Math
Blog post image preview Well, I haven't gotten ALL my tickets I've expected, but April and May are shaping up nicely. I'll begin with Sean Nelson (of Harvey Danger) and move on to The Long Winters, Ted Leo/RX, Mute Math, Rocky Votolato and then in May comes The Decemberists, Ben Gibbard solo, and MCR/Muse. This almost, ALMOST, makes up for me having to miss the Sasquatch Music Festival Memorial Day weekend. Stupid niece getting stupid married. sigh...

You are now on notice...7 days from now the new Ted Leo comes out...go buy it!

(3)
Blog post image preview The new Ted Leo record 'Living With The Living' is incredible...you have been warned! I am talking like can't stop listening to it incredible...I love everything he does, but I think Ted has outdone himself this time. The record draws on quite a bit of political subject matter, even rock stars are not immune from current affairs it seems...but it still rocks, never drags, and is just solid start to finish. I was going to post a cut from the new one, but was having issues... MORE
