In a recent post, Dale – fittingly Trusted MOGger, fabricator of the EMCD label, and notorious purveyor of intoxicating sounds - came up with some vintage live tracks by British new-wave standard-bearers The Cure. Robert Smith doesn’t want you to buy the new Cure Hypnagogic States EP from iTunes. Says paying £7.99 for it is a rip off and "absurd"! In a blog post on Cure’s Web site Smith not only sounded pissed about it ("For fuck sake!) but  points out that it’s "not a fucking album, it’s a 5 track EP"! At least he’s doing something about it. Another 13th has passed and with it The Cure have released a video for the third single "Sleep When I'm Dead" off their forthcoming album. The untitled effort -- tentatively being called mix 13, is the band's 13th studio album -- is promised to be out September 13th. Hopefully by then it will also have a real title. It seems the Cure are taking every precaution to unjinx the release of their 13th studio album. Fear of the number 13 is common news for airports and hotels, with gate 13 or floor 13 being omitted from many. But the Cure are looking triskaidekaphobia in the eye and releasing four A & B side singles each month up, the first on May 13th, up until the the release of their as yet untitled thirteenth studio album on September 13th. The Music Gods have spoken to me once again. Yesterday on the way to work Close to Me played on the radio and then twice on two different satellite stations at work. And once the Gods speak through the power of music, I must comply. Close to Me is one of my favorite Cure songs. I am partial to the 1990 "closer remix" and the updated video where Robert Smith and the band fall into the sea.
