besides both having cute munchkin voices? Well, it has just come to my attention via Retrocrush that Simpsons artist Bill Morrison (no relation to Jim, I assume) has collaborated with Jane Weidlin the song-writingest member of the Go-Go's to create a new Super Heroine, Lady Robotika for a graphic novel. Here's an interview with her and Alice Bag (of The Bags!) Man, did I love the Go-Go's. If I had a little girl, I would get her that graphic novel and play her some Go-... MORE

Egypt's queen, Cleopatra was among many other things, noted for her great beauty. In 1963, Joseph L. Mankiewicz cast Elizabeth Taylor (at that point in time, considered possibly the most beautiful actress in the world) as the queen in his big screen version of this tragic historic tale. In the past couple of years, I saw a restored version of it, and I can see where people ranging from Gianni Versace and Michael Jackson were influenced by La Liz and the movie's producti... MORE

It was double the fun on Sunday night. A holiday weekend two-fer had me at the DNA Lounge for the Bootie Pirate Prom - where the usual mash-up goodness was seasoned with a high-seas theme and numerous patrons in full-on buccaneer or wench costumes. Then, I ambled a few blocks away to the Cat Club for a summit that brought together the weekly ‘80s dance music party Club Gossip and the insanely funny, über-hip drag show Trannyshack – with special guests Jane Wiedlin and Gina... A vacation in Andalucia does wonders for your constitution, but not much for the frequency of your MOG posts.
1. Gary U.S. Bonds, "Jole Blon." In 1981-1982, Bruce Springsteen made two very good albums that are mostly forgotten. One reason is that the name on the cover of those albums was Gary U.S. Bonds. But make no mistake ... 10 of the 21 songs on the two albums were written by Bruce, the E Street Band served as the support group, and on "Jole Blon," Bruce took the ... MORE

Since a search for The Go-Go's on MOG gives you nothing and since I had the gall to make Beauty And The Beat one of my nominations for the Great Mog 501, I guess I should put my money where my mouth is and write up a post about the band. The Go-Go's were formed in 1978. Stylistically, their music spans pop-punk, surf, new wave, and rock. Their towering achievement is the album Beauty And The Beat that went all the way to #1 in 1981. Loving it (with some guilt, I must adm... MORE

Blog post image preview Just got done reading a great post by Smooth Hegemon, you can check it out here. http://mog.com/Smooth_Hegemon/blog_post/38986 It got me thinking about my days as a teacher. 10 years I spent in the St. Paul school system, and I don't regret a thing. While the past 5 months have been tough, MOG has been somewhat of a release for me. It has been great to be able to come and discuss things that are not so important in the real world. In the span of 24 hours, it seems a cloud ... MORE
