Do you know that song "Rubber Ring" by The Smiths? It's essentially Morrissey's song to people who outgrow his music. It's brilliant, really. "And when you're dancing and laughing
And finally living
Hear my voice in your head
And think of me kindly" I used to be really into the Smiths about 5 years ago, and while I would never say I "grew" out of them, they didn't seem to be as urgent. Well, I've recently started listening to them a lot. As it turns out, it is humanl... MORE

Why are The Smiths so bitter these days? Warner Bros. is releasing yet another compilation Hang The DJ: The Very Best of The Smiths without consent by the band. This comes off the news that Warners is releasing a Live at the Hollywood Bowl DVD against the wishes and approval of Morrissey. You could say that Moz is not very pleased with Warner Bros. Moz is urging his fans to resist purchasing either Smiths double CD or Moz DVD. In case you were wondering the track listi... MORE

"But don't forget the songs
That made you cry
And the songs that saved your life
Yes, you're older now
And you're a clever swine
But they were the only ones who ever stood by you" This morning before work I picked up Simon Goddard's tome Songs That Saved Yr Life on the canon that is The Smiths music. All it takes is for me to read a chapter on this song or that and I'm back, that clumsy and shy teenager alone his room, playing his records singing along to the only... MORE
now she's gone. this disappoints me so much. the real world has reached into our little utopia. i don't know why, and at this point, i don't care to know why. some things just can't be undone, i guess. so, at least for today, i'll be using this lovely avatar from an artist introduced to me by her, and i will not be using caps. some would call this a futile, shallow gesture. i prefer to think of it as a heartfelt homage. oh mother, i can feel the soil falling over m... And these videos keep me grounded. :)
I love this one especially. His voice is as close to a female's as a man's can be. The Cure and these guys keep me mildly sane. "spending warm summer days in doors..." Next time, it's a cure medley folks. cheers....
When Michelle and I were in our hotel in Italia, getting ready for her brother's wedding, this video of Ask came on. I had never seen it before. The song played as Michelle was in the bathroom, she stepped out and while looking up at the TV she said. "This is The Smiths, huh? I'm not too big on Morrissey, but this I like." I was surprisingly happy. We are planning to go to England in a year or two and I have a host of places to visit in London and Manchester al... MORE
The weather of past week has been amazing, and I've had some songs come up on random which have been perfect for walking home. Here's my sunny day playlist:
The Smiths - William, It Was Really Nothing
Crosby, Stills Nash & Young - Carry On
Jack Johnson - Do You Remember
Band Of Horses - The Funeral
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Coma Girl
I know the lyrics of some of them say otherwise, but it works.

iv been ill since last thursday, with some kind of mysterious, power draining bug. its dead weird, as for the most part im fine, but ill attempt something as strenuous as a walk around my village (tis our annual scarecrow festival this week. my scarecrow, a ten foot incredible hulk design, never got finished, let alone started) and i will wind up dead on my back somewhere.
Watched The Smiths live in Germany on Concert.tv this morning. Nothing like Waxing Nostalgia.
There is nothing better than watching Mozza and his dedicated fans cycling through the streets. (Insert Favorite Punchline here)
I believe he is playing this one live on his "Greatest Hits" Tour.
It's properly overcast and freezing here in Colorado, but my mood couldn't be more sunny. So what better music to put on than the Smiths? :) This is a carryover from last night, where I put on the VH1 Classic "BBC Crown Jewels" show recorded at the Derby Assembly Rooms. Morrissey was a lithe squirmer, swinging daffodils, Johnny was strumming and picking away on his Rickenbacker (I've got one just like it!).
It's just time for the Smiths today.
