This is an amazing album...the very fact that Buzzcocks are still putting out great music for over thirty years is incredible. The fact that their latest album eclipses their previous work of three decades is unbelievable. This is rock: aggressive, yet bittersweet. Cathartic, yet cerebral. Energetic, intense and passionate throughout the album, you can't help but feel every song is teetering on the brink: tense, anxious and urgent. Even if you don't prefer punk (or punk-po... MORE
This was a song from my childhood (8th grade) that got a lot of play in my tapedeck. Heard it in a diner in L.A. a couple months ago and flipped out on it again. Almost better the 2nd time around!
So here's the deal. A few years back I wrote a novel entitled Long Way Back. It's the story of a guy who has a profound religious experience as a child and a profound tragedy as an adult, and how punk rock helps bring him back to life again. The ending of this book is the best thing I've ever written, and I'm really proud of the whole thing. It's a quick, easy read, and, I think, fun and uplifting. Buzzcocks are rivalled only by the early Beatles in writing short, punchy, catchy gems about love. Call 'em punk, or pop-punk if you must, but I call it genius.
Right, so I know this is probably a redundant post ... & I know this is a song constantly covered by so many different bands the list must be endless at this point ... but has that _ever_ stopped me before ... NOPE !!! ;) I still remember the day in jr high, very sunny, on the back of the bus heading home ... Mike Smith, the youngest & cutest of the Smith clan had me give it a listen. He had already introduced me to Dead Kennedys & Suicidal Tendencies & the Sex Pisto... MORE
I had hoped to get this going earlier in the evening, but hey, punk rock is not for pansies, right? Join the party, I'll get this rolling with a classic ...
every time we listen a good record or watch a great rock band live, you can think "oh... i would love to play in that band... i can donate my entire organs just to be part of that".... but let's face it... let's put our feet down... everyone's got a particular personality and we've gotta know where and with whom we can fit in... so i've always think about that... in my fantasies, in which rock band that i like, i can fit in?..... where can i feel confortable?..... which...
