Raconteurs/Vampire Weekend/The Verve Eden Sessions 2008 THE Eden Sessions finally came of age on Sunday night with an incendiary performance from the Raconteurs fresh from their triumph at Glastonbury the previous day. After an enjoyable but pretty workmanlike performance from The Verve on Friday, Jack White and his compadre Brendan Benson took the stage by the scruff of the neck and restored my faith in the POWER OF ROCK as Jack White's nemesis Jack Black wo... So…the second day started with Jose Gonzalez at This Tent and he, like Newton Faulkner the day before, really set the day in a good folksy mood. I especially dug the bongo beats that were added later in the set. His voice wasn't as good as Faulkners' but he compensated with some awesome grooves and folky melodies that became trance-like after a while. Coincidentally the song highlight for me, like Faulkner the day before was the cover of Teardrops by Massive Attack. Again,... MORE
Jack White should disband The White Stripes and focus all his efforts on The Raconteurs.
Personally, I don't like Meg's drumming. I feel that she leaves a lot to be desired. Along with those feelings and the fact that Brandon Benson and Jack White make an awesome singing/writing duo (and kudos to the rest of the band if they write music.)
What do you think? Should Jack leave the White Stripes?
Sometimes the least obvious songs catch my attention. "Consolers Of The Lonely" is another excellent performance by The Raconteurs, and many reviewers and critics have understandably picked the most immediate songs that grab your attention at the top of the album. Almost hidden away (track 12) is this little gem, which seems, to my untrained ear, like 3 different song wrapped into one. Yes, the title track and "Salute Your Solution" may be the songs everyone talks about, b... MORE
I love songs that tell stories, and this is the best I've heard as of late.
Raconteurs, Carolina Drama.
We'll be holding a study group later, to discuss Jack White's use of the milkman as a Christ figure. Bring highlighters.
Piracy might not be the best thing ever to happen to the business side of the music industry, but it sure has helped out people like me...music lovers who live in secondary markets. Living most of my life in Columbus,OH I have just grown accustom to seeing some of my favorite bands, especially the European ones, skip my town while on tour. But over the last 2 or 3 years, due in large part to file sharing I imagine, bads are having to get more and more of their money fr... MORE
My friends, who have superb taste, were turning to me during and after this show saying things like, "This is the best classic rock show I've ever seen." I try to stay away from such extremes, but I am hard pressed to disagree, at least for a modern era rock band. But what do I mean by this? I mean total vocal, guitar, and rhythm section mastery, combined with perfectly crafted, simple yet intricate songs, that take you on a journey replete with psychologically poignan... MORE
As a huge fan of their new album and having read good things about their live performances, I’ve been looking forward to seeing The Raconteurs live for ages. I missed them at Reading a few years ago because I let a friend persuade me to see Muse (who were on at the same time on a different stage) instead, and have been rueing that day ever since. Luckily for me, the only disappointment of the night was the support act, who were distinctly ordinary. The Raconteurs were gre... MORE
...were pretty good last week at Bimbo's, but Jack White is such a genius I guess I expect more from him and his band(s). While I like the new Raconteurs record a lot, it wears it's influences a bit more nakedly than I'd like, and live those influences were all I could hear. Damn those high expectations. That said, "Salute Your Salution" (which I like to call "Blue Orchid II") was a serious highlight.
The Raconteurs' latest album is an addictive force of Americana that I am still unable to write a review for. I stumbled across this video the other day, and man, do they know how to manipulate the crowd.
