I'm really not sure what to make of Holding On To Whatever It Is , the newest release from The Waking Eyes . I mean, on one hand, it's not a particularly good album. In fact, occasionally -- like on "Boyz and Girlz ", which takes '80s worship to a painfully bad level, and on the syrupy ballad "Trouble On The Patio" -- it's downright awful.
But at the same time, it's not all bad. Or, to be more accurate, there are moments where it's not impossible to appreciate that ... MORE

I went to see Paper Lions play a show at the Bombshelter Pub at the University of Waterloo this past Friday. The band opening the show for them was called The Waking Eyes. Dave (drummer of Paper Lions) hyped them up to me before the show, so I got pretty excited when they got on stage and lived up to all the hype. It’s not too often we talk about bands on a major label – but honestly, that’s because most don’t need help getting their name out and we usually aren’t drinkin’ what they’re pourin’ so to speak. But, as we cobble together acts for the Manitoba version of the herohill mixtape project , The Waking Eyes seemed to be worth a look.
