Anytime I mention Tom Waits to my contemporaries, I usually get a shoulder shrug, face scrunch "I can only take him in small doses" response. Some told me Bob Dylan on his worse day sounds better. I guess it is just something you have to "get" Heck, I don't need to change the world, I just need to make mine better and with Mr. waits taking up residence, I believe it is. I keep playing the song "Green Grass" by Tom Waits non-stop.  For those who are unfamiliar with Mr. Waits, he's a pretty cool cat.   The man has been making music for over 36 years, and has developed a loyal cult following.  He is currently signed to -Anti records, the same label with which one of my favorite bands, Man Man, is also signed. In fact, Man Man frontman Honus Honus' vocal style is highly influenced by Waits' signature growl.

Tom Waits was awarded the key to the city of El Paso, Texas. Although the key was bestowed to the legendary bluesman man in a unceremonious way Waits was visibly moved, reports NME. He was not expecting the honor when a uniformed officer walked on-stage at El Paso's Plaza Theatre, where he was performing. Somewhere…there’s a couple who started the growing tradition of assembling, burning and distributing mix CDs as keepsakes at weddings. So much for matchbooks as marriage mementos. I've abondoned the dreams...so onto a film.  This isn't a biopic, but still musically inclined.  Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, starring Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Roberto Benigni. Guess I'm a little slow on the uptake, film circa 1986.
