Trip To Your Mind is a great loft classic by Hudson People. The tune dates back to London's jazz-funk scene of the late 70's. The vinyl rip is from the 2nd UK pressing put out by Ensign while the OG was released by Hithouse, both in 1979. I first heard Trip To Your Mind on Kon & Amir's amazing mixtape The Cleaning. If you see the mixtape around, make sure to buy it, if you don't have it already. Speaking of mixes...for some reason I've haven't been listening to the R... MORE
It's 11:45 p.m. here on the left coast & I have 15 mins. left of my 2 year mogiversary! Glad I remembered, but it's a little late. Oh well. To commemorate this special occasion there's some Chin Chin on the red button above to put some funk in your trunk for funky friday(from their free ep which you can download here: http://www.definitivejux.net/). What better way to celebrate than give away free music?! Here's also a clip of their song 'Appetite': http://w... MORE
The Stars Of The Lid
are another group I must heartily recommend as being excellent therapy for our rushed, stressed, postmodern lives. These folks give a whole new meaning to the idea of ambient, bringing music almost to a standstill, if that were possible. But the beauty of their sound in combination of the slow, snail's pace progression of their compositions ("songs" just seems like the wrong word) just want to take you to the edge of ecstasy or on the verge of tears, ... During their New Year's Eve performance they happened to cover Caribou's 2007 song 'Melody Day'. The band added a new touring member named Ahmed Gallab who had previously toured with Caribou, and maybe that went into the decision to cover it. Thanks to You Ain't No Picasso for the song. The cover doesn't stray too much from the original material besides Kevin's vocals. You can download the song below.

How could I have forgotten this one? From the father of ambient music himself, Brian Eno, this piece An Ending (Ascent) is one of those about which people happily comment, "That's what I want played at my funeral!" without realizing how incredibly morbid what they've just said is. At once subtly melancholy, suggestive of the isolation and desolation of the vast, endless, empty spaces between stars, while simultaneously conveying jubilance and exaltation, this is an absolu...
