I'm diggin this track from their second album, released in April 2008. And I'm loving how his Scottish accent reveals itself ever so slightly like a girl whose oversized shirt exposes one bare shoulder.

San Francisco stripped-down rock-and-roll trio Leopold and His Fiction are going vinyl-only for their sophomore album, Ain’t No Surprises, which comes out next Tuesday, January 12th. Reviewers have cited everything from Dylan to Skynyrd in trying to capture the band’s melting pot of sounds, which include elements of Detroit garage and hints of California [...]

Lily Allen felt the need to clarify a few things about her song "Everyone's At It" and issued a statement this morning because she's slightly worried we got the wrong impression... During an interview with The Word magazine Lily Allen was asked about the lyrics of a song on her album called "Everyone's At It". The song's subject matter concerns drug use. In her answer she replied that she "had no statement to make, I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thin... MORE

Mr. Musikfriend has been on a pop standard posting kinda mood lately, posting successive Sinatra tunes with some interesting backstory on most to enlighten this fan. When you live in Las Vegas, the myth of Sinatra and the Rat Pack looms large, and I was not immune to it while living there. This song in particular sticks with me, and hearing the trombone break out midway always kills me. And the joys of youtube revealed this bit of odd, vaguely voyeuristic clip of a... MORE
A few years ago, a college pal dropped in for a visit in the winter of 2006. He wanted to add more files to his 1GB SanDisk MP3 player, but "1GB" is more like "700-800MB." So I did a local search for a more interesting unit, and found an 8GB SanDisk Sansa View. My Creative Zen Nano Plus 1GB had reached it's limit a while back, so I surfed over to CNET to find "Apple compatible MP3 players." Supposedly the Creative Zen pictured above met that criteria, so I bought one on... MORE
The yin yang title of Ponytail's Ice Cream Spiritual, along with the playful abstract art cover do more than hint at the Deerhoof meets Sonic Youth controlled chaos of an album that has made quite a few best-of lists of 2008, including my own. Check out "Sky Drool."
If you know The Explorer's Club, then you're probably more pop-savvy than I am. I don't seem to know what's new these days, unless I'm hearing about it from you guys, and yet here is a band I actually know something about. However, it's not because I'm in tune with what the kids are listening to these days. Heavens, no! Let me take you back, 17 years or so . . . In the fall of 1991 I was 17, and a freshman at Charleston Southern University. This was my introduction t... MORE
