Brooklyn, NY-based indie rocker Mathew Houck, aka Phosphorescent, has announced the release of that group's new album. This time there's a twist. The album To Willie will be a collection of 11 covers of Willie Nelson songs. In selection Houck has purposely steered clear of the hits and dug for lesser known material. It is turning into a pretty great year for Hank Williams . First, a major effort is being put forth by Time-Life to release performances from a 1951 radio show that Williams hosted, showing off some of his greatest songs and a number of other songs never before heard performed by the singer.

Merle Haggard is recuperating at a Bakersfield, Calif., hospital after undergoing surgery Monday (Nov. 3) to remove a cancerous growth from his right lung. In August, the 71-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member told The Californian newspaper in Bakersfield that the growth was discovered in May.
