Okay, this is going to make me sound SOFT* (*sad old fart Toronno) but last Friday I went to one of those Classic Albums Live concerts at the Phoenix Concert Theatre here in Tinytown.

The first time I went was to see "The Wall" with my friend Jamie, for whom this is truly a classic album.  There was an eight piece band of crack musicians and they brought in an eight member children's chorus as well.  We were really impressed.

This time, I went with a Beatles fan because the evening's playlist was their "Revolver", "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" LPs.

I expected a hall full of geezers and there certainly was, but I was surprised at the number of young people (I bet they were carded) who were at the show.  It was a good mix and again, I was impressed by the musicians.  A twelve piece band this time, horns, strings, percussion, keyboards, the works.  The musicians don't try to pretend they're the Beatles - they don't dress like them, look like them or really much sound (vocally) like them, but you really do get the sense of them.  The albums are played note for note and if you like the songs, you'll really enjoy the performance.

Next Friday, it's the "White Album", "Abbey Road" and "Hey Jude". I'm debating whether this old fart is going to attend or not.

As long as you keep rocking hard - you'll never be soft... concept sounds way cool.

Cheers!

Wow, what a cool show! Since I was too young and not strategically placed in a city where I could have seen the Beatles live, I have found it somewhat surrealistic to see Beatles music performed live. And when they look like the Beatles as well, that just completes the picture and the experience.

If you found that performance enjoyable, keep a look out for “The Fab Four” playing near you. They are a Beatles tribute band that goes the distance. They recreate all of the Beatle tunes note for note with no help from other musicians- just the four of them-Even the most psychedelic of them. Plus, the Paul character, switched from playing right handed and learned to play left handed to make the experience even that more realistic. So you really get the feel of the Beatles in action. I think you’d really like their recreations.

I don't think I'd miss next Friday's show if I was you. That one sounds amazing.

I'm still debating - it's been a busy week so far and I'll just have to play it by ear.  It will be the last show of its kind for some time.  I think they've got  a Boston, Fleetwood Mac and Aerosmith evening planned during the fall/earlywinter but I'm not that keen to go for these.
